Fiat Qubo 1.3 JTD
Auto Italiana has a look at Fiat’s unconventional yet likeable vehicle
The Fiat Qubo is the people carrier version of the small and versatile Fiorino van. Its small at just under 4m long yet can sit 5 people comfortably and lots of luggage. The Qubo has a funky name some vibrant colours and a great standard spec. Fiat has tried everything to try and hide its panel van origins and it has done so quite well, but you will always know it’s based on a panel van when you take a closer look. Fiat says it is “unconventional yet likeable vehicle, just as its solid appearance and four wheels on the ground”attitude are counterbalanced by the clean lines that ooze dynamism. ”
The 1.3 JTd drives well with 55kw and 190nm@1750 and is relatively nippy in town but the gears have to be worked hard to get the most out of it but don’t expect the claimed fuel consumption figures. On the highway on the other hand 4.5 l/100km was achieved
The Qubo has the best fitting steering wheel we have felt on a non sports car. It has fiats blue and me system with USB sms reader voice control and Bluetooth connectivity. The seats have great support and adjustment range. The interior fittings are of high quality and when you are inside the car you wont know it is based on a van.
The Qubo is not the best looking Italian car ever designed but better than the multipla from a few years ago and is practical fun to drive and great for a mini moms taxi or any unpretentious person looking for a well specced very practical car.
The 1,3 JTD Retails at R212 990 standard with a 3 year / 100,000km full maintenance plan and warranty for peace-of-mind driving.
